DIY: Decorative Jars

This is a fun, easy and cheap do-it-yourself tutorial on creating nice looking vases out of something as simple and easy to get as empty jars.
All you’ll need is an empty jar, glass, or vase… anything you think you can use! And decorative sand. Any hobby store should have it for sale. I recommend at least two different colors of sand, for a nicer effect.

These are the three colors of decorative sand I used: yellow, purple and pink.

Note: Before you begin pouring different colors of sand into your vase/jar, keep in mind it obviously won’t be so easy to get the colors separated from each other back out of there!

I used jars which once contained food. After some thorough washing (making sure there’s no smell left behind) and scraping the label off, the jars were ready to be decorated.

When pouring the sand into your vase/jar, tilt your vase/jar a little bit to the right or left to let the sand build up on one side. Then pour a different color sand over it.

Tip: Add a single fake flower to make it extra pretty!
