Much like pretty much every city in Europe I would say, Ruse also has a Christmas Market this year. And even though Ruse is “only” the 5th largest city of Bulgaria, I am very impressed with their Christmas decorations in the center of the city!
At first, I wasn’t sure what to expect. Coming from a town in the Netherlands, my Christmas markets consisted mostly of a lot of stands/stalls selling all kinds of stuff at not necessarily affordable prices. Although it was always “gezellig” (“cozy” / “fun”) and I visited it for many years, there was never much decoration going on.
Contrary to Ruse! Wow! I’m so excited to share with you how beautiful the city center looks!
A Walk Through the Christmas Market in Ruse
It all starts with these long lines of blue lights as I approach the city center.
I believe this is the municipal building. Or something serious of that sort. I was amazing to see it was decorated with lots of lights too!
On the other side of this building is the “Леден парк” (leden park) or: ice park! It has various attractions for young and old.
There are food stalls, a (although fairly small) skating rink and various fun fair attractions.
Back to where the Christmas decorations are! коледен базар (koleden bazar) means literally “Christmas market”.
These are my favorites! There are these flower decorations in what was once a pond during summer time. Now, there is no water and instead, there are these flowers made of beautiful lights! I can’t stop looking at them, especially this one. It’s so beautiful!
On the other side of the now empty pond are various wooden stalls. They sell trinkets/Christmas souvenirs as well as tasty treats!
Everything in the city center of Ruse seems to be beautifully decorated. And many more decorations were added, such as the heart at the top of this blog post. People love taking selfies in front of it!
Since it had rained, the ground was wet. But I must say that the wet ground made a lot of my pictures turn out even better! I used “Night mode” on my phone camera for the pictures. Otherwise they wouldn’t have turned out so well…
This is the last picture in this blog post about the Christmas Market in Ruse 2024. I hope you enjoyed the beautiful photos as much as I enjoy looking at them!
