Blender Problem: I Added Bones But I Can’t Pose My Model

I’m trying to get a cute little cat model to life in Blender, and it’s been a while since I last rigged a character, so I ran into this issue and I decided I might as well share this simple solution. :) Basically, I added bones to the character but then I realized I can’t pose the model. Well, that’s because I forgot a one small step…

Solution!

If your bones move but your 3D model stays still, it’s because the rig and the mesh are not connected. Here’s how to fix it:

  • Go into Object Mode
  • Left-click your 3D model, then hold Shift and Left-click the skeleton
  • Press Ctrl + P to open the Parent menu
  • Select With Automatic Weights. This binds the model’s vertices to the bones.

Done!

Thank you for checking out my Blender Note! I am by all means a beginner in Blender, so I do not feel qualified to label this post as a 'tip' or 'tutorial'. However, I decided to upload this note for myself, and hopefully it can be useful to others as well.
