Blender Tutorial: How to Add a Sheet to Your Bed

For my current Blender project, I am making a bedroom scene. I’ve already created the bed and added pillows, and now it’s time to drop a sheet onto the bed! If you also want to know how to add a sheet to your bed in Blender, just follow this quick tutorial!

Note: I am using Blender version 3.5.

Bed Sheet with Cloth Simulator in Blender

Let’s add a bed sheet with the cloth simulator!

Step 1.

First, add a plane and subdivide it 30 times.

Step 2.

Then go to the Physics Properties tab and apply the Cloth modifier to your plane.

Step 3.

Now, you will want your sheet to interact with whatever it’s landing on, so make sure to apply a Collision modifier to your bed. In my case, I added the Collision modifier to the bed, mattress and pillows that are on the bed.

Step 4.

When you’ve done that, play the animation by either clicking the Play button or pressing Shift on your keyboard. Your sheet will fall down onto your bed, see image above.

Step 5.

Once you are happy with how your sheet landed on your bed, go to Object -> Convert -> Mesh to convert your sheet to mesh. In this way, it is no longer being animated.

Improve Your Bed Sheet!

Here are a few tips to improve your bed sheet:

1. Make your sheet smooth by adding Shade Smooth (Object -> Shade Smooth) to it.

2. Add additional smoothing by applying a Subdivision surface modifier to it.

3. Add some thickness to your sheet by applying a Solidify Modifier to it.

If anything seems off while applying your modifiers, make sure to check that the modifiers are in the correct order, see this image above!

4. You can play around in Sculpt Mode to add detail to your sheet, or to fill up any gaps that have been created. See image above for a before and after. As you can see, the pillows and side of the bed were clipping through the sheet. I amended this in Sculpt Mode. Needless to say, you can also correct this in Edit mode by moving the sheet around in those areas.

Finished!

And that’s it for this tutorial! I hope this helped you out and you now know how to add a sheet to your bed in Blender.

Thank you for checking out my Blender Note! I am by all means a beginner in Blender, so I do not feel qualified to label this post as a 'tip' or 'tutorial'. However, I decided to upload this note for myself, and hopefully it can be useful to others as well.
