It’s always great when you run into an unexpected problem when you’re working on a scene in Blender.
In this case, I was working on a bath tub for a shower / bathroom scene. And I wanted to make a hole in the bath basin for the water to drain. To do this, I wanted to use the Boolean Modifier and set it to Difference.
I’ve done this many times before, so I was surprised when it suddenly didn’t work on my current Blender scene.
It turned out like pictured above: my cylinder becomes ugly and no hole is created. Also, it seemed to merge the object.
An unexpected result. I tried to Clean Up my mesh (Merge By Distance), Apply Rotation & Scale and neither helped.
Boolean Modifier Problem Solved
But this did help: I selected my bathtub (the object I want to have a hole added into), and selected Mesh -> Normals -> Flip.
Then I applied the Boolean Modifier again and yay! It created a hole. Problem solved!
Note: I am using Blender 3.5 at the time of writing this post.
Thank you for checking out my Blender Note! I am by all means a beginner in Blender, so I do not feel qualified to label this post as a 'tip' or 'tutorial'. However, I decided to upload this note for myself, and hopefully it can be useful to others as well.
