I’ve recently bought a couple of things for the cats to keep them entertained as they are now living a complete indoor life since moving from a house with a fenced-off garden in The Netherlands to an apartment Bulgaria. Among the items that I bought are a couple of cat toys. And today I will be reviewing the Automatic Cat Laser toy.
What is an Automatic Cat Laser Toy?
An automatic cat laser is an interactive cat toy. An interactive cat toy is an item or a device designed to engage and entertain cats through movement, sounds, or lights. Such a toy stimulates a cat’s natural hunting instincts, providing physical and mental exercise. Examples include laser pointers, motorized toys, and puzzle feeders, all aimed at keeping cats active and mentally stimulated.
An interactive cat toy can be automatic, meaning it operates independently without the owner’s direct involvement. These toys often feature moving parts, lights, or sounds that activate on their own, keeping the cat entertained and engaged without needing the owner to manually operate the toy.
First Impressions
Upon receiving our package, the first thing I thought was that the item appears to be smaller than I imagined it would be. Not that this is necessarily a downside. Just an observation.
Furthermore, I find the item to be very lightweight. I am afraid of it falling over, either accidentally by a human or purposefully by one of the cats. I wonder if it would easily break, but I’m not going to try and find out! I’ll be sure to place the cat laser toy in a safe manner, to protect the item from harm and hopefully protect the cat’s eyes from the laser!
After receiving the automatic cat laser toy and unboxing it, I charged it for about two hours. Unfortunately, the cable is very stiff/rigid. It was hard to insert it and even harder to take it out of the back of the head of the cat laser toy. I was afraid that the force required to pull it out would cause me to break the head of the toy. Luckily, I was able to pull it out without damage. But if you ask me, this is definitely a design flaw. Hopefully the ports will ‘loosen up’ somehow.
What Does the Cat Laser Toy Do?
The automatic cat laser shines a red LED light that is automatically moved around. The laser point will go from left to right, up to down and vice versa. This allows for the cat to become engaged and hunt the laser light.

Do the Cats Like the Automatic Cat Laser?
Now, let the cats speak for themselves! What did my cats think of this interactive cat toy?
Ricky: She was initially interested when first activating the laser toy. However, her excitement was short-lived. She hung out around the laser light for a while, and eventually started doing other things.
Tommy: Tommy was sleeping on top of a closet when I first set up the device. I brought it to him. He looked up. And went back to sleep. Later on, Tommy also came and had a look. He enjoys watching the dot move around and occasionally stretches out a paw to reach for it, but that’s pretty much it.
What I Didn’t Like About It
Although I understand it would be near impossible to avoid, I don’t like that the laser light will at times hit my cats in the eyes, simply due to them and/or the laser light moving around. Luckily, the contact with the eyes should be very short and do very little damage. Plus, the chances of it hitting the eyes is relatively low.
Other than that, I dislike how rigid the plug is and how much force I need to put on the delicate head of the toy to hold it back as I pull out the plug after charging it.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do my cats need an interactive toy?
Yes! Your cats can greatly benefit from interactive toys. These toys keep your cat physically active and mentally stimulated, preventing boredom and destructive behavior. They mimic prey, satisfying your cat’s natural hunting instincts. Moreover, interactive toys are especially useful for busy owners, as automatic features ensure your cat gets necessary exercise and mental stimulation even when you don’t have time to play, promoting overall health and well-being.
Is a cat laser toy dangerous?
Directing the laser into your cat’s eyes can potentially harm their sensitive eyesight. It’s important to always keep the laser moving and avoid shining it directly into their eyes. Using an automatic laser pointer for cats, it is likely to happen that the red light will eventually move into your cat’s eyes accidentally, but as your cat is playing and the laser light is moving, it should not be for more than a fraction of second. Therefore, damage should be absolutely minimal.
Are there different types of laser toys for cats available?
Yes, laser toys come in various forms, including automatic laser pointers that move randomly, handheld laser pointers, and laser toys integrated into other interactive devices.
Can laser toys help with indoor cat boredom?
The automatic cat laser device is especially designed for stimulating indoor cats both mentally and physically. They can offer a solution to boredom by providing a hunting-like experience.
Can a cat laser toy help my overweight cat?
Laser toys can encourage exercise and help overweight cats shed excess pounds when used as part of a balanced play and feeding routine.
What if my cat doesn’t like the laser toy?
If your cat doesn’t show interest in the laser toy, try using other types of interactive toys like feather wands or puzzle feeders. You can always introduce the automatic cat laser at a different time again. Perhaps your cat will develop an interest eventually!
