Cheap Way to Entertain Indoor Cats: Cardboard Box + Crumpled Papers

Today I want to share with you a cheap way to entertain indoor cats. Although I bought plenty of toys for my cats, it doesn’t hurt to give them even more entertainment! Especially Ricky, who has gotten into the habit of waking me up every night. Multiples times, even.

Since moving from our home with a backyard in the Netherlands to an apartment in Eastern Europe, my cats have gotten a bit ‘bored’ – especially Ricky. And I understand that. They spent their entire lives in a two-storey house with access to a fenced-off backyard until we had no choice but to move out.

Life has changed drastically for all of us, and I try to accommodate the cats as best as I can. Don’t worry, they have toys. Two scratch posts, boxes, a cat tunnel, a mouse, balls, automatic laser, automatic string, window hammocks,…

And in this post I will share with you a cheap way to provide some entertainment to your indoor cat: with just a cardboard box and crumpled papers!

Treats Into a “Ball Pit”

Entertain indoor cats with an easy to make “ball pit”! The idea is very simple: put up a cardboard box, fill it with crumpled papers. Once filled, throw a few cat treats into the box and now your cat can go and hunt for the treats in their very own “ball pit” made of crumpled papers!

I actually did this before with 3 years worth of crumpled of tea bags and Ricky liked it a lot!

Currently, I’ve cleaned out the cardboard box for sanitary reasons, but I will make a new one soon.
