In this tutorial, I will show you how to make a text drip effecct in GIMP. You can use this effect in multiple ways, for example to make a grafitti effect, creepy/blood drip effect or Splatoon text effect.
It’s an easy tutorial. You just gotta know what tools to use. Let’s get started!
How to Make a Text Drip Effect in GIMP
Of course you begin by opening GIMP and creating a new image. On this image, you write your text in a new, transparant layer.
Once you’ve written your text – in my case, I chose the word ‘Splatoon’ – you should pick the Warp Tool and set Warp Transform to ‘Move Pixels’. I’ve included a picture above with the exact settings that I used!
Now that we’ve got the drip effect, we want to enhance the effect by adding a bit of ‘thickening’ at the bottom of some of the drips. You know, as liquids kinda like to collect and build up sometimes.
To do this, we again use the Warp Tool, but this time we use the ‘Grow Area’ setting, as you can see in the image above.
Using the Grow Area setting is a bit tricky, as your drip effect can easily turn ugly. You may want to alternate with the Shrink Area setting to correct some of this.
That’s it!
And that’s all there is to it! Now you know how to make a text drip effecct in GIMP. Edit your text as you wish, or leave it like this. Have fun!
