Let’s Make the Internet Alive Again!

How many times a day do you come across AI art? Apart from the debate of whether one should or shouldn’t use it – it’s boring to look at. Yes, a lot of AI art looks great. But it’s typically generic. Maybe that will change, but who cares – where’s the human behind the art? I’m not even talking about whether the art is good or not – I want to look at a picture with some thought put into it. I want to see an idea. I want to see LIFE. The internet is being flooded with AI content every second. AI generated art, AI generated videos, AI generated web content. The life is being sucked out of the internet. I hate it!

Social media websites don’t seem to be interested in making a clear distinction between AI and real art and real content. So we must take matters into our own hands and ensure that the flame of the internet – the living world wide web as created by humans – doesn’t die out.

Ideas for Artists with Blogs

I’ve been thinking a lot about how to keep flame of the internet alive, and then I thought of a cool idea! You know how on Twitter and Instagram, people do these ‘draw this in your style’ types of posts? We don’t need social media for that!

What if, as artists, we provide bases or fun little games on our own web blogs, and other artists can simply join in by posting on their own website! I mean, people can also join on social media, but it’s more fun on your own website. Your own website really gives you the freedom to do as you wish. It’s a great reason why you should have a website as an artist.

Okay, bear with me. Think of it like this:

Artist 1 posts on their blog:

Here’s a base of a cat! I drew it in my own style. Feel free to take it and color the cat in your own style and post it on your site!

Artist 2 posts on their blog:

Here’s my version of this cat! This base was made by Artist 1, click here to visit their website where you can download the base and try it yourself!

Or! Something more collaborative. Think of the following:

Artist 1 posts on their blog:

I drew this building with 10 windows. All the windows are empty, except for the first one. I designed it with my vision: a cat sitting in front of the window with lace curtains and an aloe vera plant. Now I invite you to take my drawing and fill out your window!

Artist 2 posts on their blog:

This picture was made by Artist 1, it’s a building with ten windows. The second window is my design! It lets the viewer see into a room, with a computer screen in the back. It represents the room of an artist – me! – who went to make some tea. If you want to fill out a window too, download this image and add your design to it! Have fun!

We Don’t Need Social Media

We don’t need social media to interact with each other. We are artists. We are creative. Among many others out there, we also breathe life into the internet. Let’s fight back against the flood of lifeless AI art and garbage we don’t want to look at.

If social media are unable to provide us with the space we need – we create the space ourselves!

Pass Down the Flame!

What’s the point of being on the internet if no one sees you? What if nobody reads your thoughts, looks at your photos, browses your art? It’s true – I make art because I love doing so. But it feels empty and alone when nobody looks at it. Let’s help each other to be seen.

I am here handing you the Flame of the Internet. Will you take it from my hand and pass it on?
