New Layout. Who’s This?

I’ve been working on a new layout for a while now. Even though I really liked my previous layout, I just couldn’t help but want to be able to show more at once on the front page. I have posted a lot of content over the years, and I need a layout that will help me show off more of my previous content to my visitors, both new and returning.

A blog isn’t like social media – my posts don’t suddenly become irrelevant. Although my blog has dates and posts are made in ”chronological order”, on social media, you basically just log on to see what’s new. I notice people basically never check on older posts. Having had websites long before social media became the dominant factor on the internet, this annoyed me from the start. I treated social media as a diary with smaller page entries, so to speak. I enjoyed going through older posts of people I followed or were interested in. Slowly but surely I learned that it’s basically “not done” to even leave comments or likes on older posts. The past is the past on social media. Content never gets updated. Only new content gets added. I don’t like that style.

Although I excitedly joined pretty much every social media site out there, gradually, I stopped posting on them. It’s impossible to be found out there and it seems just as much possible to make friends, or make any sort of connection with anyone, let alone get a comment or ‘Like’ back. And I don’t mean exchanging likes for likes or follows for follows – I mean at least a genuine gesture, a curiosity. Like: “hey, this person checked me out! I wonder who they are, let me have a look through their page.” That sort of mindset.

It seems like nobody shares this mindset with me, so I dropped it over the years and decided to focus more on my blog. Even though I am just a small blog, and obviously hard to find when people don’t venture off of social media and I stopped being there to let people know that I can found on this “address”, this is my home. My digital home. And I can customize it as much as I want. Update whatever I want, whenever I want, highlight older posts and my post categories. Because a website doesn’t need to be ‘dump’ like social media. I like order. It makes a website easier to use, for both myself and visitors alike.

So here it is, the new look of inspiremari.nl! I’ll still be tweaking and editing the layout over the course of the next few days, so bear ʕ •ᴥ•ʔ with me, please! ˚.⋆ֹ
