Ah, Pocket Pikachu Color, my beloved! Pokemon brings me a lot of happy memories. Today I would like to take a moment to talk about one of my all time favorite Pokemon items from my Pokemon collection, this so-called “Pikachu Tamagotchi”.
It may not be called a “game”, since Pocket Pikachu is much easier to take care of than a tamagotchi pet, but Pikachu sure does do a lot morethan a typical tamagotchi. Pikachu cannot die, but he will get mad at you if you don’t give him enough attention.
There is Pocket Pikachu in black and white and Pocket Pikachu color. I have the color version, as the toy shop back in the day offered to order it straight from Japan for me. :D I just had to wait a few weeks.
The main feature of Pocket Pikachu is the built-in pedometer that counts every step you take. Taking steps gives you Watts, and you can give those watts to Pikachu. But watch out, Pikachu won’t be happy with just 10 watts! You’ll need to give him at least 400 in order to see a thankful expression. Give him 999, and he’ll flip over backwards three times of happiness!
Pikachu’s Habits
Pikachu gets up around 7 AM, and you can watch him take a shower. Though, if Pikachu notices you’re peeking, he’ll get scared and hide.
Pikachu eats, and always brushes teeth afterwards (a good example for all of us). He plays games, watches TV, fishes, digs, and way more you’ll discover when you use Pocket Pikachu.
Features
The best features Pocket Pikachu Color has: the time, an alarm (you can create a custom melody), send/receive gifts, compatible with Gold & Silver, play a game.
Items you can get in Gold and Silver: Eon Mail, Berry, Bitter Berry, Mystery Berry, Gold Berry, Great Ball, Max Repel, Ether, Elixir, Revive, Rare Candy.
Pocket Pikachu Color: Games
Pocket Pikachu has only one game: Higher or Lower.
Pikachu will show you two cards and you’ll need to guess whether card two is higher or lower than card number one. If you guess right, you’ll earn watts. If you guess wrong, you’ll lose watts. The Ace (A) is the highest card, followed by King (K), Queen (Q), Jack (J), 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2. This game can be tougher than it seems at first.
You can stop playing at any time and you’ll get the watts you’ve won so far.
Pocket Pikachu Color also has a Friendship Status. The status can be Strangers, Playmates, Friends, Best Pals… and maybe some more I’ve missed. The more you interact with Pikachu, the more you’ll develop your friendship! But if you suddenly start neglecting him, this will be reflected in the Friendship Status.
The batter for my Pocket Pikachu Color has lasted for years. More than 5 years, even. However, when the battery does die, all saved data will be lost! So be sure to replace the battery when the screen display becomes dim.
And on a different note…on which I am surely lucky, Pocket Pikachu Color seems to be able to handle falling on the ground a couple of times. I can’t possible remember how many times I’ve dropped Pikachu or it fell off my pants (over a hundred, I tell you!) but it continued working properly. Despite a few scratches on the screen… :)
Eventually though, I tied a string of yarn to my pants and connected the Pocket Pikachu Color to it. So it wouldn’t smash onto the floor anymore as it slid off of the edge of my pants. ^_^;
