“Blinkies” refer to small, usually animated graphics that were popular on the early internet, particularly during the late 1990s and early 2000s. These graphics were typically used on personal websites, blogs, and forums, especially on platforms like GeoCities, LiveJournal, and various fan sites.
Note: If it’s hard to read the text, please understand that screen sizes were typically 800×600 back in the day and we used different monitors (CRT monitors) that probably affected the contrast. ^_^;
During the early 2000s, that’s when I first began using the internet, the use of blinkies was a significant part of internet culture, especially among younger users and in fan communities.
Blinkies were used to customize and add flair to the otherwise plain HTML pages of the time.Sadly, as web design evolved and social media platforms like MySpace and Facebook became more prominent, the use of blinkies declined.
Blinkies are a nostalgic symbol of the early internet era, representing a time when personal expression on the web was often handmade, colorful, and animated. And I’m happy to share the blinkies I made back in the day! Feel free to use them as you wish. ^_^
