This year, I received a surprising package in the mail: a box full of various tasty typical Sinterklaas treats: kruidnoten! Kruidnoten in various shapes and sizes. As well as some other things. I took a bunch of pictures, let me show you these goods! :D

…It’s just too bad the sun kinda disappeared after it arrived. <_<

Regular kruidnoten are crunchy and spiced with a balanced sweetness. The flavor is dominated by speculaas spices (Speculaas spice is a blend of aromatic spices, typically including cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, ginger, and cardamom, used to flavor traditional Dutch and Belgian cookies.). They are often compared to gingerbread, but are harder in texture and have a stronger, more aromatic spice mix.
Regular kruidnoten aren’t overly sweet, so the spice mix is the main attraction. If you’ve ever had speculoos or spiced biscuits, the taste is similar but more intense!
The chocolate version has a layer of chocolate around them. My favorite is white, but I also really love milk and dark chocolate. It’s hard to choose, they’ll all good!

The mouse on ski’s was included in the package – hidden inside one of those paper bags! A super cute Christmas gift that I’ll definitely cherish.
I know… Christmas and Sinterklaas are not the same, but the holidays are so close together, might as well mix and match. :D
Unicorn Kruidnoten
Kruidnoten with a colorful pastel coating! The coating on these unicorn kruidnoten is basically a thick layer of sugar. Although I prefer chocolate covered kruidnoten, these did not disappoint!

Kruidnoten as Cereal?!
Anyway so I made this discovery. O_O I drink instant coffee every day and as I had my cup of instant coffee and grabbed a handful of kruidnoten, I decided to check how they’d taste inside the coffee. And I can tell you: that is DELICIOUS. xD So I started eating a bunch of the regular kruidnoten like some sort of cereal in my cup of coffee.
