After being quite jealous of the Netherlands receiving a tremendous amount of snow for several days straight, finally, some snow fell in Ruse, Bulgaria as well! Although not as much as in the Netherlands, I am happy with even a little amount. I love snow more than anything else – it’s so beautiful! The trees, how the streets are still somewhat ‘light’ when it’s night, I love watching the snowflakes fall from the sky! There was definitely more snow in Ruse in 2025, but so far this year, enough snow has fallen to enjoy it and I took a couple of pictures to share!
The image above shows the Pantheon of Ruse, or in full, The Pantheon of National Revival Heroes, a Bulgarian national monument and an ossuary (a building designed to serve as the final resting place for human skeletal remains or cremated ashes).

Above: a picture of the crossing to get to the Pantheon, at least from my direction. It was quite slippery in the snow, and it didn’t help that taxi driver insisted on slowly, continuously driving forward until it almost hit me. No idea what’s up with the taxi drivers in this city, but it’s not the first time one almost ran me over. They typically seem to be in a hurry.

More snowy goodness!

Anyway, I went outside with a purpose. Back in the Netherlands, I had a lot of fun in the snow together with Ricky, when my cats were still Backyard Cats. I decided to go out and grab some fresh snow and bring it into our apartment!

It’s funny – I actually wanted to do this last year, but didn’t. So I waited a whole year to get a chance to do this after all. In the mean time, it became a popular thing to do on social media, lol.

I thought it would be interesting for my now indoor cats to experience some snow, so I brought two plastic bags full of powdery snow back to the apartment and emptied them in the shower. Well… it wasn’t a lot… and Ricky somehow didn’t seem to care much. :(

She went in and out of the shower several times. Then I realized that maybe she was spooked by the fan that automatically turns on when the light goes on, so I left it off. She stayed a little longer, but… that was it. The snow melted away. No cat play. :(
