Snow in Ruse, Bulgaria 2025 (Photo Blog)

Last year, in 2024, when we arrived in Ruse in January, it only snowed for maybe a day that month. In January and the months after, it was still cold, but not that bad actually.

This year, 2025, seems to be completely different! We now have snow in Ruse, Bulgaria for three days straight, even. The snow just keeps piling up. In fact, I haven’t seen this much snow in YEARS!

Actually, after I filled in Day 3, I have to say I have NEVER seen this much snow before. Personally, I love snow, so the snow fall in Ruse was quite a treat for me this year!

The last time I saw a noteworthy bunch of snow, was in 2021 in the Netherlands. Now, in 2025, I took a bunch of pictures of the snow in Ruse and I’m happy to share them with you!

Snow in Ruse: Day 1

It started with a little bit of snow, small snow flakes. But the snow almost never stopped, so it adds up.

Snow in Ruse: Day 2

On day two, it continued to snow in Ruse. The snow is small, but unstoppable – 24 hours of continuous snow fall really added up to the amount of snow on the ground, sidewalks, on cars, and rooftops.

I think this tree looks very nice next to this apartment block.

Look at how much snow has accumulated on the tables of this restaurant in the city center!

Snowy road and sidewalks.

Snow in Ruse: Day 3

This should be the last day of snow in Ruse, according to my weather forecast. After that, the minus temperature is going up. And I mean up the wrong way – from minus 3 at night to minus 15, minus 18, even minus 20 (that’s -4 F) is forecasted for the end of the week!

I hope all systems will continue working. I mean, some villages in Ruse have been without electricity for several days now. But since I live in the “main city”, it should be okay. Hopefully! I don’t think I’ve experienced such minus temperatures before.

In the evening, I went for a 2 hour walk through the city to see all the snow. So that’s when I took all these pictures below!

I think this photo looks really nice, being all dark in the front and with the lighter spots in the distance.

I’ve visited this bridge before in the summer, now it’s all covered in snow! In the distance, across that body of water, you can see Romania. The water is the Danube river.

This photo also turned out really well.

This is around the center of the city. Snowy paths with shops and restaurants on the sides.

I took a picture of this bush, because I think it kind of looks shaped like a strawberry!

Alright, we’re back at the restaurant again. As you can see, there’s now about three times as much snow on the tables!

Snow in Ruse: Day 4

There is still a little bit of snowing going on in the morning. I’ve heard that it’s snowing pretty much all over Bulgaria, and Ruse hasn’t had this kind of snow in a long time. Today, I notice snow is falling from the tree branches. It’s still freezing and fog is expected later. Hmm, icy road + low visibility. That doesn’t sound too healthy! Luckily I have enough groceries to be able to stay indoors for a few days if needed.

Snow in Ruse: Day 5

The snow is melting more, which is strange, since it’s still freezing during daytime as well as night time. The snowing has stopped completely. Now we’ll be freezing for a little while, as the forecast has been updated to -21 degrees Celsius on Sunday!

The inverter doesn’t seem to be able to keep up with keeping the room warm, which means it would be very costly to let it run. Instead, we moved a radiator under our working table, and draped a cloth over it to trap the heat. Kotatsu style. :D

Monday, the temperature should be going up a bit again. “Only” -12 is expected at night.
