StarSubculture – For A Chance to Be Seen

I normally don’t use my blog to rant, but in the last few months I’ve started to write about my dissatisfaction with the internet as it is today. I’ve gone on some nostalgic ramblings about how the internet used to be in the early 2000s and have been doing a lot of thinking about what I can do to help create a space on the web that gives me that feeling of back in the day.

Meanwhile! As if it was meant to be, two months ago, YouTube recommended me a video called Why YOU Should Make a Website! by Luvstar. Seeing that there are SO MANY PEOPLE who feel similar about how the internet is set up nowadays made me realize I’m far from alone in this.

Since then, Luvstar has been working very hard on motivating people to make their own websites, and creating a chance to be seen.

Because let’s face it, it’s extremely difficult to stumble upon random people’s websites nowadays.

StarSubculture Was Born

StarSubculture is like a breath of fresh air through a stale internet landscape full of artificially made pages. And I don’t even mean to refer to AI specifically – I mean it’s all curated nowadays by a couple of big corporations. What you see is what has been decided you should see, or has been paid for. It has become very difficult to stray from the few large websites that dominate the web and people’s minds today.

StarSubculture offers creatives on the web a chance to be seen. It gives people like myself a place to browse through websites made by all kinds of people from all the corners of the world. Just like I always enjoyed doing. It also has a little profile system, likes and comments section and I’m pretty sure Luvstar is cooking up a lot more awesome features to come! I enjoy these little “homemade websites” so to speak. Because websites like these are like the homemade meal equivalent versus a ready-to-eat pack in the supermarket.

I finally feel like my comments matter. Whereas it feels like a comment on a social media account is just a drop in the bucket, it feels like comments are more meaningful on StarSubculture. Because it’s our little space. Together, we can make it into something great. Let’s shoot for the stars!

If you have a website, be sure to submit it. Do check out all the other features as well. Leave a like or comment if you have time. It’s these little things that make a community so wonderful.

  1. Mari, thank you SO much for the spotlight on StarSubculture!! This is so sweet and makes me feel 10x more thankful that I took on the project in the first place. Spreading the word of SSC is really important now – I hope many more website owners find their way to the community. Thank you so much for your contributions. :3 <3
